– „So to try to transpose old business models to this new business reality is simply insane. Just because people used to pay in print they should pay now—when the half-life of a scoop’s value is a click, when good-enough news that’s free is also a click away, when the new newsstand of Google and Twitter demands that you stay in the open, searchable and linkable? This argument I hear about pay walls comes from emotional entitlement (readers should pay—when did you ever see a business plan built on the verb should?), not hard economics.“

Weiterlesen
Facebook plant „Like“-Button für das gesamte Web
One of the new features we’ve been hearing about is the extension of Facebook Connect and the Facebook API to allow publishers to add a “Like” button to any piece of content on their site.
[..]
One way to think of this, says a source with knowledge of the product, is this. Google spends billions of dollars indexing the web for their search engine. Facebook will get the web to index itself, exclusively for Facebook.

– „Perhaps the most common mistake that paywall supporters make is forgetting that people haven’t paid for the news in 180 years. Newspaper readers used to pay for paper, ink, trucks and delivery boys—and often barely paid enough to cover that bill. Now they pay for internet connections instead.“
– „While the iPhone app supports both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress blogs, users with self-hosted blogs won’t see any advantage in geotagging their blogs until WordPress releases its own geotagging plugin in a few weeks.“

So weit, so gut. Weiterlesen

Warum Google BitTorrent erfolgreich machte

We’re now at a point where torrent sites top the search results for nearly search phrases related to downloading movies and music.
